The Shale Gas Revolution is said to bring US to the largest oil producer in the world. On the other hand, US Government has continued to invest a great deal in R&D and industrialization of algal biomass. Correct understanding of this instance must be absolutely important to think the direction of Japanese Energy Strategy.
International Symposium on Algal Biomass co-organized by Algae Industry Incubation Consortium, Japan (AIIC), University of Tsukuba, Tsukuba Global Innovation Promotion Agency, and Tsukuba 3E Forum will be held on 5th-6th September in Japan. This provides up-to date algal information in US and Japanese government policies, research and business world, and will be expected to help the launch of algae industries.

 

The theme of symposium is “The Benefits of Algae to All Humankind”, and it has three sections.

 

Section 1: Policies of Japanese and US Government (algal energy, agriculture et al.)
Japan: Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries
Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
United States: Department of Agriculture
Department of Energy
United States Pacific Command
National Renewable Energy Laboratory
They will lecture the policies of algal biomass utilization of each agency.
Section 2: Latest Research of Academia
Researchers from US, Australia, France and Japan, will lecture latest research about use of algae for sewage treatment, Tohoku Recovery Project, Algal hydrocarbon biofuels, and so on.
Section 3: Business of Algal Biomass

Companies which are doing business of algae production and sales, will speak market trend of algae industries such as jet fuel, animal feed, aquaculture, chemicals and cosmetics.
